Botswana
Botswana & Okavango Delta
13th August 2014
We entered Botswana at a small town south of Namibia's Mahango National Park - very little formality.
We now have a tarred, but pot holed road, a mobile signal and our bank card worked. I doubt if any of this will last long as we have to return to Namibia to cross into Zambia.
Shakawe is a large village on the banks of the Okavango River. It was a complete maze of reed walls each surrounding small kraals and little else so we are still short of bread! Currently we are having a day's rest on a delightful campsite right on the river bank. They accept credit cards so we can stay a couple of nights and enjoy a nice meal in their restaurant. We spent the morning on a boat trip up river - crocodile lazed on the banks and there was plenty of bird life including an African Fish Eagle but the hippopotamus remained hidden from view. A true paradise.
Now for John's latest ditty.
"They didn't think much of t' delta
The water it were muddy and brown
There were no crocodiles and no hippopotamus
And n'body getting eat'n or drown'd.
So seeking for further amusement
They paid and went out on a boat
And there they saw lots of crocodiles and hippos
All lying in t' water afloat."
