On the Road Again
July 2017. At long last, we're "On The Road Again"!
Apart from a few days at the National Motorhome Show In Peterborough , where we delivered our presentation on Worldwide Motorhoming, we had not been away in Nicolle since last August.
We had had intentions but things had cropped up to thwart our travels plans. An invite from our friend Pete for his 70th birthday party took us up to the Lake District. Following this, our daughter Ally, who was working for Dragoman, provided us with the opportunity to take a half price trip to India and Nepal. Something not to be missed!
In the spring we had intended to take a tour up the highlands and islands of Scotland. Unfortunately, Ally's cat got himself run over. Despite a cracked skull, broken jaw, fractured spine, dislocated pelvis and damage to internal organs, he managed to drag himself home. After a series of operations and a spell in intensive care, he was confined to his crate and needed to be liquid fed through a tube in his neck. Sue and I spent four weeks helping Ally nurse him back to health.
And then our son Jonny and wife Natasha presented us with our first grandchild. Sue was adamant that we could not go away until our grandson, Max, was born!
Our plan is to visit Moldova and Ukraine. On previous visits to Eastern Europe we had visited Romania and Bulgaria, but had been unable to obtain insurance for Ukraine.
Our route will take us through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Romania. In Romania we want to drive the Transalpina Highway in the Parâng Mountains and the Transfăgărășan (Ceaușescu's Folly), the paved mountain road crossing the Carpathian Mountains.
On our return trip we want to visit Vienna, a city that neither I nor Sue have visited before. We will then spend a little while in Germany, driving the Romantische Straße and the Fairytale Route. We also want to follow the Weser River from its source to Bremerhaven in the North Sea and visit Lüneburger Heide.
Finally, we will cross into the Netherlands to visit our friend Rolien, before returning home.
