Three Peaks of Yorkshire
My son Jonathan and I returned to Yorkshire for a weekend in order to walk the Three Peaks Challenge.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a 24 mile walk taking on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, the three highest hills in the Yorkshire Dales. The walk must be completed in under 12 hours.
The walk starts from the café in Horton where you get your card stamped at the beginning. It ends there so that you can get your finishing time stamped and, hopefully, collect your certificate!
The fastest time was recorded in 1996, when Andy Peace completed it in 2 hours 46 minutes 3 seconds. We completed it in a more modest 10 hours 59 minutes, but Jonathan would have been much faster had he not had his dad holding him back!
We had taken Ordnance Survey maps to help us find the route but didn't need them. There were hundreds doing the walk. We just had to follow them!
